Unprecedented fiscal and monetary policy support has been instrumental in keeping the financial system functioning well. The pandemic has, however, highlighted concerns about market liquidity.

Two key household vulnerabilities—high household indebtedness and imbalances in the housing market—have intensified over the past year. The housing market boom and the corresponding rise in mortgage debt support economic growth in the short term but increase the risk to the Canadian economy and financial system over the medium term.

The three remaining financial system vulnerabilities highlighted in previous issues of the Financial System Review continue to be relevant but have not changed significantly over the past year. These vulnerabilities are the mispricing of assets exposed to climate-related risks, cyber threats and fragile corporate debt funding from certain markets. Комментировать
